When I give you a word as inspiration for your next artwork, I am giving you restraints to work around. I have found that this works SO much better for students than just giving them free reign (which can offer so many options that they are paralyzed!)
Our friend, Dr. Seuss, (Theodor Geisel) knew the power of constraints.
Please read the following short article to understand why:

If you do research on this idea, you will find TONS of info about how this idea is supported by research. Constraints make you creative!
Now it's your turn! Set a constraint for yourself for your next project. Give yourself a challenge or obstacle that will lead to an opportunity to creatively solve a problem. Once you've figured out exactly what you're going to do, come talk to me about it, and then get to work! :-)
Reflection Questions:
1) Explain your constraint in detail, why you chose it, and how it influenced your work. Did you find giving yourself some limitations/challenges effective in making you more creative?
2) Critique your project - explain what worked and what was a struggle.
