If there is one thing I want you to learn when taking Art classes (especially Art Portfolio!), it is that you can find inspiration for your work ANYWHERE! This project is proof of that.
Your task: Take the small notebook I give you and float through the next 24 hours, writing down any little bits of overheard conversation that you find interesting. This is not a "gossip mission!" This is an attempt to snag interesting phrases, ideas, exclamations, facts, statements, etc. and then turn them into an artwork.
After you've gathered 10-15 different conversation bits, choose 3 to develop as ideas. Remember: You are not trying to illustrate the phrase, you are using it as inspiration for a work that you design that jumps off of that idea, so don't limit yourself.
After surveying your best three ideas, choose one to create as a full blown artwork in the medium of your choice.
Reflection Questions:
1. Did you find this task a helpful way to gather ideas? Why or why not?
2. What are some other unique ways that you find inspiration for your artwork?
3. Critique your finished piece. What did you like and what would you have changed about it?
