This is a sculpture project. You will be given paper plates and your job is to create an object (or objects) that shows good texture, is three-dimensional, and has as much detail as you can add. You may attach paper plates together with hot glue, regular glue, staples and anything else you can think of - as long as you hide how you attached it.
You may work on this project by yourself, or in a group. If you choose to work in a group, I would like your piece to be larger than those who work by themselves.
OPTION 1: Create an object! See below for the photo I saw that inspired this project. It came from this website (more photos.) I am not expecting you to make a dress (although you could), but this technique will also work great to build animals, items in nature, and everyday objects. Choose something with good textures and details.
OPTION 2: Create a lighted paper sculpture. Play around with textures and shadows as you build a nonobjective sculpture that you will light from inside with a flash light or other small light.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1. What were the challenges and fun parts of working with paper plates to create a sculpture?
2. Critique your work - what worked and what was a struggle? What grade would you give yourself?
