When you recreate an artwork by an artist, this is called a "Master Study." It is an often-used form of artistic learning that dates back hundreds of years.
To create your master study, you will be using the artist you chose for your Digital Poster. Find one of your artist’s more well-known works, drag it to your desktop, and crop a part of it to a square. (Check with me to make sure you've cropped it in a way that keeps the artwork interesting and challenging.)
Recreate this square in either pastels or oil pastels. I will give you a demonstration on each of these mediums and let you try them both out before you choose which one to use.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
**Along with a photo of your work, please post a photo of the painting you were working from, along with the title and the artist's name
1. What can we learn, as artists, from doing a Master Study?
2. Did you like this piece, or your digital piece about the artist better? Is digital art a valid form of artistic expression (making art)? Why?
