EXERCISES:
1. We will start by shading a value scale with 7 spaces (the first one is the white of the paper.)
Use a circular shading technique to build up the value and keep it from looking flat/scratchy.
(I will give you a demo of this technique.)
2. Watch the shaded sphere video and create your own (on the same paper.)
(I will give you spheres and value scales to emulate.)

SHADED DRAWING:
Choose 3-5 items to cluster in a pile. Take a photo, zooming in so your objects fill the photo frame. Choose items that are a good balance of lights and darks, highlights and shadows.
(Alternate project - choose one of the shoe photos I have.)
Before starting, do a CONTOUR DRAWING (I will give you a demo of this, too) of your subject matter.
Focus on the "inlines and outlines" of the objects, using a smooth line and REALLY paying attention to the contour lines you see!
Shading will done in the circular shading technique, also.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1) How do skill building activities (like these) help you express yourself?
2) What was most successful and what could have been improved in your Drawing Exercises and WHY?
